Question 1

Turbocharger actuator and EGR wear

Accepted Answer

Reduced power and engine warning light from turbo actuator faults or EGR clogging; reported from around 120,000 km on the V40 diesel generation; usually a repairable component rather than a full turbo replacement.

Question 2

DPF clogging and regeneration failures

Accepted Answer

Diesel particulate filter blocks on short urban journeys, causing frequent regeneration, loss of power and eventual derate; common on diesel V40s with predominantly short runs.

Question 3

Timing chain stretch and tensioner wear

Accepted Answer

Rattling noise on cold start from chain stretch or weak tensioner; can lead to valve interference if neglected on this 1.6 diesel engine.

Question 4

Valve cover and oil filter housing gasket leaks

Accepted Answer

Oil seepage around the valve cover and filter housing, leading to low oil level and potential fire risk if ignored.

Question 5

Front lower control arm bushing wear

Accepted Answer

Clunking over bumps and uneven tyre wear from worn bushings; common on front-wheel-drive V40s with higher mileage.

Question 6

Sensus infotainment screen freeze and no-power

Accepted Answer

Touchscreen hangs or unit loses power, affecting radio and navigation; reported on early V40 electrical systems.
